With many decades of experience in the art field, Carliss has accumulated quite a medley of experiences from fine art, medical anatomy drawings, and technical skills in graphic arts and photography.
She obtained a BFA in fine arts from USC and further studied in education, business and advanced painting classes from the College of Charleston, the Citadel and the MUSC Anatomy Department. She also earned an Associate’s Degree at Trident Technical College.
Carliss has taught as an art instructor in both public and private schools for four decades, as well as giving private lessons and teaching at the Gibbs Art Gallery Studio located in downtown Charleston.
She belongs to a number of local art guilds as well as owns two companies; Prosser’s Pictures and Gospel Graf-fix. Carliss also has a prophetic arts ministry called “Art-Unveiled.” This began as a means to reach more people with the word of God in a visually expressive way. She has also hosted prophetic art seminars locally and internationally.
Carliss has said, “I am like a child when I browse the isles of an art supply store, imaginatively concocting different product combinations to create new works of art. I love the process of being creative.”
Over the years, many of her paintings have sold in numerous museums, art exhibits, galleries and contests.
